Canfield Solitaire
Canfield Solitaire is a challenging card game where players must carefully move all required cards from the tableau into the Foundation piles to win the game.
Getting Familiar with Canfield Solitaire Columns
The game board in Canfield Solitaire consists of three main sections:
Stockpile
The Stockpile stores cards that are face down and not immediately playable. Unlike the tableau, where all cards are face-up, the stockpile hides cards until you are ready to draw them. In Canfield Solitaire, the stockpile typically consists of two face-down columns, from which players draw to continue building sequences on the tableau or foundation.
Tableau
The Tableau is the primary playing area, where all face-up cards are laid out for active play. Players can move cards within the tableau to arrange them strategically, aiming to eventually transfer them to the foundation piles. Unlike games like Solitaire, all cards in the tableau are initially face-up, allowing players to plan their moves with full visibility.
Foundation Piles
The Foundation Piles are located in the top-right corner of the screen and consist of four empty columns at the start. Each foundation pile must begin with a specific starting card. The goal is to collect and move cards from the tableau and stockpile into the foundation piles in proper order.
How Cards Move in Canfield Solitaire
Card movement in Canfield Solitaire follows specific rules that require careful strategy:
Starting from the Default Foundation Card
Each foundation pile begins with a specific card, which sets the baseline for the sequence. Players can only move cards with a higher value than this starting card into the foundation. Cards with values lower than the starting card must remain in the stockpile or tableau.
Organizing Cards in the Tableau
Proper arrangement of cards in the tableau is essential for winning:
- Cards must be arranged in ascending order, from low to high.
- Colors must alternate between red and black to allow legal moves.
- Only when cards are arranged correctly can they be moved to the foundation.
This rule makes Canfield Solitaire more strategic than many other solitaire variants, as every move affects which cards will be available later.
